When are you open?
We're open 7 days a week from 9am-midnight Monday to Friday, 10am-4pm on Saturdays and 10am-10pm on Sundays.
So you guys do recording?
Yes, and we're very good at it! We are equipped with a full professional recording studio and we cater for bands, singer/songwriters, singers and voiceovers from single song sessions to full albums from tracking all the way through to mastering.
What rehearsal slots do you offer?
Monday to Friday daytime - we're flexible on what times you can book anytime between 9am-6pm.
Monday to Friday evenings - to help maximise the number of bands we can cater for each evening we offer three hour slots from 6pm-9pm and 9pm-midnight in Rooms 1 and 2 and 7pm-10pm in Room 3.
Saturdays - usually 10am-1pm and 1pm-4pm.
Sundays - usually 10am-1pm, 1pm-4pm, 4pm-7pm and 7pm-10pm.
We try and be as flexible as possible and if you require a slot out of our usual times, we will do our best to fit you in.
How much do you charge?
We charge £10 per hour for weekday daytime bookings and £12 per hour for evening and weekend bookings. More info on our rehearsal rates can be found here.
Is a PA system included in the hire cost?
Yes! All of our rooms are equipped with a professional PA system and three microphones, stands and leads all inclusive of the room hire cost.
How much do you charge?
It might surprise you how reasonably priced we are. We have carefully crafted a selection of recording packages for bands, singer/songwriters and singers that are charged per song and include all tracking, mixing and mastering so you know how much you're paying from the word go. You can view these great deals here.
What if your recording deals don't fit my needs?
Not a problem. We evaluate each project individually to make sure we can cater for you in the best way possible. If necessary we can put you on our default hourly rate of £30 per hour.
We recorded somewhere else but aren't happy. Do you mix projects recorded elsewhere?
Yes. If you can deliver us the Pro Tools or Logic projects or the dry stems in WAV format we can mix the tracks for you. We charge £100 per track and we'll even master for free.
We want to track with you but want to mix and master elsewhere. Is that possible?
Yes. We can track your project and deliver the dry stems in industry standard format to you or your mix engineer. We're also happy to deliver the original Pro Tools or Logic files.
Do you have backline equipment available to hire?
Yes! We have a large selection of drums, cymbals, guitar and bass amps and guitar and bass cabs available to hire for an additional cost per session. Prices can be found here. Just let us know what you would like to hire when you book and we'll have it ready in the room for you when you arrive.
How can I pay for my session?
We accept either cash or debit/credit card using our chip and pin machine. If you wish you can split the cost between you and your band members and can pay by a combination of cash and card.
What if I need to cancel my booking?
If you need to cancel that's fine as long as we have at least 24 hours notice. Any cancellations made within 24 hours of your booking will incur a £20 cancellation charge. If you fail to attend your booking without notifying us you will be charged the whole cost including backline hire. All charges must be paid in full before any future bookings can be made.
What if I get thirsty or hungry?
We offer a selection of cold canned drinks, bottles of water and chocolate bars. We also have an awesome coffee machine in reception offering coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
What about parking?
We have plenty of FREE parking available right outside the studio.
Where are you guys located?
We're in Hilsea, Portsmouth. We're very close to the M27 and a stone's throw from Hilsea train station so getting to us couldn't be easier. Our address is Unit 8 The Admiral Park, Airport Service Road, Portsmouth, PO3 5RQ. Click here to view us on a map.
What preparation should we do before coming into record?
Preparation is key. Make sure you are as well rehearsed as possible, both individually and as a group. Nothing can hide in the studio! Singers, bring lyrics with you if you need. It's amazing how they can disappear from your mind when the record button is hit! Also remember to warm your voice up as much as possible. Guitarists, re-string your guitars a day or two before coming into record. You want them to be fresh sounding but also to hold their tuning. Drummers, bring new sticks where possible and re-skin your kit! A huge amount of the quality of the sound of your drums comes from the skins. We don't want to be recording skins that have had the life gigged out of them.
We'll always be on hand to help out and make sure we get the best raw sounds as possible.
We don't have the best equipment. Do you have any we can use?
Yes. We have a great selection of drums, amps, cabs and guitars that are available to use for your recording session.
Do you do 'live' recording?
We understand that some bands want to record 'live' but we feel very strongly that multi-track recording gives the best results. It gives us much more control over any editing that needs doing and makes sure we can deliver the best mix possible.
I'm a singer recording to a backing track. Do I have to provide my own backing tracks?
Yes. We require them on an audio CD or as WAVs or MP3s on a USB stick. The best source of backing tracks can be found here. If you're struggling to find them let us know and we'll see if we can source them but remember backing tracks haven't been made for every song ever written.
